Just found this old video of mine. Watch it starting at the 5 minute mark.
Tom Tom, Garmin, Google Traffic can now provide traffic information based on GPS coordinates. Long before smartphones and GPS traffic routing technology, we developed almost 10 years ago an In-Vehicle Traveler Traffic Notification System Based on Location.
TIPS is to aid people in providing up-to-date information on the current traffic conditions. The system is designed using a laptop and a GPS receiver through a wireless card.
We pulled traffic information from Houston Transtar and provided traffic information using GPS and text to speech technology. This was our senior project for Houston Transtar while students at Texas A&M University.
