Was the new yellow you saw the etrex venture hc?
My Yellow Garmin …
My Yellow Garmin got used for about 5 years, then I sold it to a person who’s used the out of it for another 6 years or so. I replaced it with an eTrex Legend which has been great.
The eTrex IS waterproof, but the battery compartment isn’t. If it gets wet, replace batteries and you’re back in business.
Tom Tom would be utterly useless for geocaching, and a yellow eTrex would be bad for navigating on the road. Sounds like the real problem is you bought the wrong device for the purpose.
@chimmister – 18 …
@chimmister – 18 foot accuracy is about as good as GPS gets without long integration times or local WAAS correction.
This is part of the challenge and fun of geocaching – the GPS will get you to about the right spot, but then you have to use your eyes.
i got one like that …
i got one like that but it’s blue and theres sort of a hat switch just above the screen on the left side for up, down, left, right navigation

I have the same unit. LOVE it! Thanks for the video.
Your best bet is to …
Your best bet is to ask on a local Geocaching forum, as accuracy can be specific to certain environments. But make sure you have your datum on WGS84, and you use averaging techniques to let it settle. My guess is you are not doing averaging correctly.
I have a question, …
I have a question, I just started geocaching and so far I’ve only found a handful but looked for a lot, and every time I found something with my garmin yellow it said I was 18 feet or more away from it, did I get a bad product, a bad yellow or is it not acurate or am I doing something wrong?

Hundreds of thousands of Geocachers will disagree with you.
You can’t compare a car GPS and an Outdoor GPS, that’s as silly as the ministry for silly walks.
It is “water resistant”, just not “water proof”. Yes, that’s the only gripe with it, the marketing department confused the two terms.
This guy doesn’t …
This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
The yellow garmins are total crap. I dropped my tom tom off a motorbike at 50MPH (went off the side of the road). I went back to get it and it was still saying “ahead, turn right”. THAT’S RUGGED! My yellow garmin has a cracked screen now, failed to deliver on its “water resistance”, and NEVER finds enough satellites for a signal.
The only reason the yellow garmin gps is still sold is that people are still stupid enough to buy and sell them.
