Some reviews have stated that this unit is hard to read in the sun and the screen is rather dark (compared to the Oregon or GPSMap60cx). I’ve also heard that the accuracy is not that great. Could you comment? Thanks!

I would recommend this gps for use in any outdoor activity. Yes, you can select how it routes based on whether you are on foot, on a bike, in a truck or car.

Great review thank you! I also do a lot of mountain biking. Now I got an exchange unit for an Etrex Legend HCX because the rubber kind of dissolved off the unit. I guess I will be selling the exchange unit and get myself the Dakota 20. I know the old problems you were talking about, only ONE map on the device, the compass which was very bad in the etrex series and so on. I’m also very happy that they obviously hugely increased the map rendering speed. Thanks! It was very informative!

Very good for a newbie to read. I have wondered how good these screens are in the cold when snowshoeing or Xcountry skiing. I would expect the battery life to be less but are the screens and electronics still good?

Just wondering if you think the display is a big small especially when compared to the Oregon and if you have any problems reading the display in sunlight?

The topo maps I am using are Garmin 24k West. They are not as detailed as the National Geographic maps when it comes to displaying features such as dirt roads, trails, ruins, mines, petroglyphs, etc, but they are adequate and the contours are very detailed.

You can actually combine maps with this program called MapUPLOAD that merges .img files. Excellent review by the way. I lost my etrex HCX Vista, and was looking to replace it with this one.
